LifeShare Celebrates Annual Donate Life Month
Organization Continues to Raise Awareness for Donation
Each April, LifeShare Oklahoma celebrates Donate Life Month, a month-long observance to focus attention on the need for organ, eye and tissue donation. The celebration is about the importance of registering your decision to be a donor and celebrating the hope that can be given through this decision.
This year’s Donate Life Month theme is “Inspiring Hope and Healing” with an image of a paper crane – which is a symbol of hope, healing, and transformation -- much like the journey of organ donation. In Japanese culture, folding 1,000 origami cranes is believed to grant a wish or bring good fortune. Similarly, organ donation represents the gift of life, granting hope and a second chance to those in need.
Each fold in a paper crane symbolizes the care, consideration, and precision that goes into the process of organ donation. Just as each fold shapes the crane, every step in the donation process, from registration to the transplant itself, molds a new opportunity for someone to live a fuller life. READ FULL STORY

Liver Recipient Celebrates 30 Years of Extra Life
Tulsa Woman Given a Second Chance at Life Through Organ Donation
In early 1994, Talitha Brown, of Tatums, Okla., was a full-time working mom, busy with a toddler, traveling, and leading a normal and healthy life. It was only during a routine outpatient procedure did Talitha’s doctor take note of her enlarged liver. Asymptomatic and healthy, Talitha struggled to understand the severity of her journey ahead.
Unfortunately, medical tests and procedures only raised more questions, leaving Talitha and her family discouraged and hopeless. Her health quickly declined in the following months, eventually being diagnosed with a rare condition affecting only one in a million adults. Talitha’s diagnosis marked the beginning of her fighting for her life. |
By summer, Talitha was in need of a miracle; she needed a liver transplant to save her life. Talitha was officially listed for a transplant and was waiting for one, and her health began to decline. Doctors told her that they had done everything they knew to do. Talitha began preparing her goodbyes and organizing her affairs. READ FULL STORY
